The SOCROVERS are trying to get to HONK, TX in Austin for a massive festival of like-minded street activist bands. We'll use this trip to energize our current members, and recruit newbies for our 2011 street roaming season in Durham and around the triangle region of NC.
By the first week of March, we'll be ready to plot and plan our musical onslaughts, and will be gearing up for our Texas pilgrimage from March 11-13. We already have a few dollars in our account, and are seeking funding to ensure our members $250 each to offset their HONK expenses.
Any additional funds raised will be used to reduce the cost for each member to make the trip. If we do really well and raise enough to pay for each member's trip in entirety (estimated expenses are at about $400 per band member, with 8 of us currently planning to attend), we'll use additional funds to pay for our indoor winter practice space, and save any remaining balance for our HONK trip to Somerville, MA in October!!
Making music in the streets is a powerful way to remind ourselves that public space is ours! No sound is illegal. Our sounds may not reach the top of the pop charts, but they beat the sound of car horns, spinning tires, construction work, and lawnmowers hands-down...Fund our 2011 season and help keep public space vibrant and alive with the sounds of music!
